What Fever Blister Medicine Will Stop The Virus?
|
I
know I'm in a world of hell when I wake up and have that "tingling"
sensation on my lips. Every time, a small bump forms shortly
after. And then that bump breaks the surface and turns into a
nasty sore. And then that nasty, painful sore hangs out on my lip
for a week or more at a time. It's a fever blister, something
that up to 60% of all adults have had to deal with at least once in
their lives. But luckily, there is a cure, and it doesn't involve
any expensive fever blister medicine.
I've had the herpes
simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) -- the cause of fever blisters -- since I
was born. My dad was also born with it. And unfortunately,
there's no way to get rid of it. If you've had a fever blister
before, then I hate to say it, but you're stuck with the virus for the
rest of your life just like me.
But in the past couple years,
I've found natural ways to essentially put my fever blisters into
remission, never to pop their hideous heads on my lips again. I
haven't cured the virus -- anyone who says they have is lying -- but
I've made it nearly non-existent in my life for the past two years.
The
trick to eliminating fever blisters lies completely in two areas: your
diet, and your lifestyle. These are the main causes of fever
blisters.
Your Diet
When you make poor decisions in the
foods you eat, you create an environment in your body that makes fever
blisters easier to "grow". This is largely when you disregard pH
balancing in your diet. Western diets are very high in acidic
foods, which is why cold sores are much more prevalent in Western
cultures like the United States.
The easiest advice to give is
to eat more vegetables, especially spinach. These help neutralize
the acidity in your body. I'm not at all recommending you remove
foods from your diet, but make sure to eat more vegetables to balance
out your acids and bases. Highly acidic foods include anything
high-protein and anything based on grains, like pasta, oatmeal, or
bread.
Your Lifestyle
The number one cause of fever
blisters? Plain and simple: stress! Have you ever noticed
how you get them after a very stressful event, or after being sick or
physically weak from something?
The best way to fight stress is
with sleep. Make sure you get enough sleep every night and you
will be able to prevent most occurrences of fever blisters. You
will be aiming for 8 hours minimum every night.
Normal fever
blister medicines simply prevent the time you spend with a fever
blister when it breaks out. It is far more effective to make
basic changes in your diet and lifestyle and prevent fever blisters
altogether.
These two suggestions only break the surface (no pun
intended) on fever blister prevention. To be free of fever
